Mark V.Q. Blas

Bellevue University

Program Type/Area of Study: MBA with a concentration in Acquisition and Contract Management

What prompted you to return to school?

I want to sharpen the skills and abilities I’ve already gained in life. Also, I am curious to find out what drives me in life after the Marine Corps.

What military education benefits, such as the GI Bill, did you use?

G.I. Bill; About 95 percent. The book siphon is often less than the cost of textbooks each semester.

What has your experience been like as a student?

My experience with Bellevue University (BU) was phenomenal. Since I started with Bellevue University they assisted me with everything from registration, a degree plan, Tuition Assistance (TA), Montgomery G.I. Bill, payment plans, bookstore, library, student center, and career coaching. The services provided from Bellevue University staff were gratifying.

What challenges did you have adjusting to campus culture after military life?

It was a struggle at first, but the faculty and staff at B.U. quickly made me feel comfortable and important, which fostered a high level of trust in a short amount of time.

Do you believe your military experience has made you a better student?

My military experience has taken me to several U.S. states and foreign countries where I have observed and lived in many different cultures. With that, I have an instant connection with the real world when studying such things as diversity, tolerance and domestic/global issues.

What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?

Please visit B.U. when making your choice of which school to attend. I challenge veterans to find a university that is as veteran friendly as B.U.

Additional comments:

Bellevue University is the sensible choice for me due to the availability of night classes and its first-rate online courses. As well, the Course Clusters enabled me to achieve several of the core competencies in a short amount of time. Finally, the Military Veteran’s Services Center is a great place to study alongside other veterans and help one another throughout our transition.
