todd fowlerTell us about yourself:

The online culture however has had its challenges, but I am able to achieve so much more with it being on my time table and the flexibility to do school around my odd working hours.

Tell us about yourself

I spent 8 1/2 years in the military working on engines. I am a huge college football fan. Go Blue! I enjoy all sports but I also enjoy cooking and learning new flavors to add to my taste pallet.

What prompted you to return to school?

I was sitting at home on my day off from work and happened to be watching the Cooking Channel and thought to myself why not go to culinary school and learn something new.

Why did you choose ICC?

I was researching online all of the culinary schools in my area and at the top of the list was International Culinary Center. So I picked up the phone and setup an appointment for a tour.

What military education benefits, such as the GI Bill, did you use?

I am currently using the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill for the school. I haven’t had a problem with anything.

What has your experience been like as a student?

So far I have had a wonderful experience at the school. It is definitely a different world learning how to become a chef.

What challenges did you have adjusting to campus culture after military life?

In a lot of ways, culinary school was a lot like the military. For example, I still had to wake up early, wear a uniform, get inspected, and deal with a chain of command. It was challenging to adjust to being about ten years older than most of the students. I didn’t feel like I had a lot in common with many of my peers, most of whom had never lived on their own or were still living at home.

Do you believe your military experience has made you a better student?

I believe that the military has helped out tremendously with my study habits for school. But it is still a lot of information to retain, in such a short amount of time.

What advice do you have for veterans returning to school?

Use your GI Bill! In this economy it is a great help!
