What appealed to you about logistics?

It’s the process of how something gets from point A to point B. Think of the coordination it takes to ship something in Europe to a consumer in California. People can just hop on a plane. But for items from computers all the way to large machines, it’s a more complex journey.

What do you like most about your job?

To be a part of this growing company as a leader is very rewarding. It is also very challenging and takes commitment to accomplish the mission at the highest level. I guess to narrow it down to one thing: It’s hard. I like everything from working with the drivers on improving the fleet to working with the end user on the network to building an IT department that produces satisfied customers.

What surprised you most about the civilian workforce?

The dedicated employees. Leaving the service I didn’t think I would find a team that was as dedicated as the people I worked with in the service.

What’s a typical day like for you?

As a department leader I have to widen the gap between revenue per mile and cost per mile to increase profit. To do that, I have to make sure we are running efficiently.
