Lisa D. Duckworth, MSML, SPHR

2025 Utah
Veteran of the Year®
Army Veteran

Lisa D. Duckworth, MSML, SPHR, Army veteran, People Leader, Community Engagement Champion and cancer survivor is the State of Utah’s Veteran & Military Employer Representative and Utah’s 2025 Military Friendly Veteran of the Year. As many people implemented change during the pandemic, Lisa did too, making a career pivot to focus more on Inclusion. In her current role, she actively advocates for all veterans, military members and spouses by assisting employers and other organizations with their employment, training and development initiatives. She also has oversight of the Utah Patriot Partnership, a network for veteran and military welcoming employers. Lisa leverages her decades of experience across several industries as both an internal and external resource to help leaders navigate challenges and opportunities. Her blend of content expertise, natural teaching style as well as skills in relationship building ensure interactions are informative and positive. Lisa proudly served in the US Army (Jul 29, 1992 to Dec 24, 1997) as a Chaplaincy Resources Manager in the Chaplains Corps for close to six years. Since serving, she has gained over 20 years of experience in the field of human resources in various industries to include military, construction, energy, nonprofit, healthcare & government industries with both union and non-union populations. She currently volunteers on the Utah SHRM Board of Directors, is a SHRM/USAA Veteran Ambassador and as an Impact Team Leader for the Utah Women and Leadership’s Bolder Way Forward movement. Lisa also actively serves on several Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce committees. She is also a member of PSHRA, NAACP, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. Lisa volunteered to share her story as a featured cancer survivor for the 2024 Needs Beyond Medicine annual fundraiser. Lisa has been married to her favorite veteran Shane, an Electrical Reliability Engineer for over 30 years, having met while they were both serving in the Army at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Although it was a difficult decision not to return to Lisa’s home state of Texas after completing their service, they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah from Lisa’s last duty station of Darmstadt, Germany. Shane and Lisa have three kids together and are loving how their family has grown and evolved with the addition of significant others: Sarah (Tra), Ashley (Connor), and Nathan along with a handful of grandkitters and grandpups that they adore. Lisa’s mantras: Let’s get DANGEROUS! (Thank you Darkwing Duck) Challenging the status quo and igniting innovation make me feel alive! I like good trouble.

Tim den Hoed

Founder & CEO
Major Talent
Air Force Veteran

Tim den Hoed is the founder and CEO of Major Talent. Tim retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service and brings more than 20 years of military and industry recruiting experience to Major Talent. He founded Major Talent, a company that is on mission to help Veterans transition into the civilian sector. Tim believes the only reason every Veteran separating from the service does not have multiple job offers prior to separation is because the approach needs to change and he believes Major Talent can do just that. Major Talent’s platform addresses the 4 largest areas of opportunity that Veterans navigate when they separate from the service. These are: Career translation, Resume Building, Interview Preparation and Job Placement. For companies that are intentional about hiring Vets, this initiative makes it simple to identify and recruit Veterans Tim understands military service and how key career indicators are relevant for successful talent acquisition to employers.
