Leadership is the primary skill I learned [in the military] that applied to [the] natural gas and oil industry. I found out quickly that if I was on time, teachable, knowledgeable, dependable, and was willing to take on projects of increasing responsibility, I could differentiate my performance from others. Secondly, teamwork and the ability to teach others was a skill that allowed me to lead effectively in every organization that [I have] worked.

Why We Value Veterans

A vast opportunity exists for the natural gas and oil industry to attract, retain and develop lifelong careers for veterans in the industry. Veterans come to the civilian workforce with extensive technical and nontechnical skills gained through military experience. Many of these skills have direct applicability to the industry, making them ideal candidates to fill the projected 1.3 million job opportunities available. API is committed to attracting more veterans and transitioning service members into meaningful, well-paying careers as inspectors in the natural gas, oil and petrochemical industries by identifying career path opportunities that establish a competitive industry advantage.

What We Offer

Military Veterans
API’s Individual Certification Programs (ICP) allow qualified veterans to establish a career path in natural gas and oil and contribute to the safety of industry operations by applying skills gained through military experience. ICP is authorized by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs for the Web Enabled Approval Management System (WEAMs), allowing application of GI Bill® benefits for exam fees.
Military Spouses
WEAMS is a centralized online database of approved licenses and certifications which allows active military, veterans and eligible spouses and dependents to receive funding when applying with their GI Bill® benefits. If you qualify for the GI Bill, you can use a portion of the benefits to reimburse test fees up to $2,000 for a job that requires a certification to work.
