4 Myths Veterans Face When Finding a Job

1. Help them picture you at their company.

Let’s face it. Most people only know about the military from movies and news programs. Few people know someone serving in the Armed Forces, and if they do, they may only see them at holidays or in Facebook posts. Help the person hiring you dispel the myth that you won’t fit in. Do your homework, learn to speak the company lingo and dress for the position.

Before you interview:

“Like” the company’s Facebook page. Check out the company’s website to see if it has a blog where employees share what they are working on. Check out the LinkedIn pages of current employees. This will help you speak the company’s language when you go to interview or talk with recruiters at job fairs. Your potential employer will search your social media accounts before your interview. So post a LinkedIn picture where you are dressed in a way that will help a recruiter envision you working at their company.
