Exxon Mobil Corporation
G.I. Jobs \\ What do prior military hires bring to your company that you like?
Branch ..
ExxonMobil has found that individuals with a military background bring analytical capability, a strategic focus, maturity and formal leadership skills that have been developed through their military experiences. In addition, the adventurous spirit and geographic mobility commonly associated with military hires is of significant interest to ExxonMobil since our operations span nearly 200 countries and territories.
G.I. Jobs \\ What issues/surprises do you find that military transitioners/veterans need to be aware of when entering the civilian workforce?
Branch ..
With a strong corporate culture, high ethical standards and a focus on technology, ExxonMobil provides an environment where most military hires easily assimilate into the workforce. The importance of informal authority and influence, however, can’t be over-emphasized. The ability to build networks and work successfully with individuals over whom you have no formal authority is a key to success.
G.I. Jobs \\ What disadvantages do you find?
Branch ..
In some cases, the transition from a strong military culture to that of private industry requires a period of adjustment. Typically, we find that ExxonMobil’s culture and operating practices are a good fit for military hires.
G.I. Jobs \\ What are the most common mistakes you see on military/veteran resumes?
Branch ..
The use of military jargon, job titles, and acronyms does not adequately communicate the level of responsibility and scope of an individual’s experience. It is important to tailor a resume to your audience - many of which won’t be familiar with military terminology.
G.I. Jobs \\
Is relocating essential to promote within your company?
Branch ..
Relocation is not required for promotion, but a willingness to relocate may afford individuals with more opportunities to broaden their personal or career development. Promotion to senior leadership positions generally requires broad development and an understanding of the many different aspects of ExxonMobil’s global businesses.
G.I. Jobs \\ What types of positions does your company recruit for?
Branch ..
ExxonMobil actively recruits individuals with degrees in engineering, geoscience, and most other science and technology disciplines. Additional career opportunities exist in the operations / manufacturing areas of our Chemical, Refining & Supply, Production and Marketing companies. A complete list of typical assignments can be found online at www.exxonmobil.com/careers.
G.I. Jobs \\

I think the Post-9/11 GI Bill could be improved by:
Paying for vocational schools, apprenticeships, flight training and on-the-job training programs
Paying a housing allowance for students enrolled in online programs
Paying for book/supplies stipend to active duty students
All of the above
I don't think the Post-9/11 GI Bill needs improved
